Important for Ukrainian citizens
Ukrainian airspace remains closed to civil aviation, so there are no departures from Ukrainian airports. Most travellers reach India via Warsaw, Kraków, Rzeszów, Chișinău, Bucharest or Budapest, crossing overland first. Your India eVisa is checked on arrival in India and is unaffected by where you depart — but you will need to satisfy the transit requirements of each country you pass through.
Overview
Practical circumstances shape every part of a Ukrainian trip to India at the moment. Ukrainian airspace is closed to civil aviation, which means no flights depart from Ukrainian airports and every journey begins with an overland crossing — usually into Poland, Moldova, Romania or Hungary — before flying onward. That makes an entirely online visa process considerably more valuable than usual: there is no consulate visit to fit around the rest of the logistics.
Every Ukrainian citizen needs a visa granted before departure. There is no visa-free entry and no visa on arrival. For tourism, business and medical travel the eVisa handles it online: an electronic authorisation issued by the Government of India, linked to your passport number, with no stamp and no appointment.
Ukrainian passport holders receive up to 90 days per visit on the tourist eVisa, and the five-year multiple-entry version is available. India is also a significant destination for Ukrainian medical travel — the private hospital networks in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai are well established for cardiac, oncology and orthopaedic care — and the medical eVisa is built for exactly that.
At a glance
Eligibility
Yes. India extends visa-free entry only to Nepal and Bhutan, and Visa on Arrival only to Japanese, South Korean and Emirati nationals. Ukrainian citizens must hold an approved visa before boarding, and it will be checked at whichever airport you eventually depart from.
Choose the category by purpose. Tourism, sightseeing, visiting friends and wellness travel fall under the tourist eVisa. Meetings, trade fairs, supplier visits and contract negotiation require the business eVisa. Treatment at an Indian hospital requires the medical eVisa, which also allows accompanying family to apply as medical attendants. Employment, journalism, academic research and long-term study are outside the eVisa scheme and need a regular visa from an Indian mission.
A practical note: your India eVisa governs entry to India only. It says nothing about your right to enter or transit Poland, Moldova, Romania, Hungary or any Gulf or European connection point. Ukrainians under temporary protection in an EU country should check what their status permits for onward international travel and re-entry before booking.
Stay & validity
Ukrainian citizens are permitted up to 90 days per visit on the tourist eVisa. The 30-day version allows double entry, with its 30 days counted from your arrival date. The one-year and five-year versions are multiple-entry, and their validity begins on the date the Indian government grants the application.
For medical travel the medical eVisa is usually the better instrument than a tourist visa: 60 days from first entry with triple entry, structured around treatment plus follow-up consultations. Accompanying family can apply for medical attendant visas linked to the patient's application, which matters when a patient needs support.
The business eVisa allows up to 180 days per visit within a one-year multiple-entry window — double the tourist allowance.
The eVisa is bound to a single passport number, so renewing your passport during a multi-year visa's term invalidates it, with no transfer process. Given the current difficulty of consular services, this is worth planning around carefully.

Requirements
Everything Ukrainian passport holders need before starting an application. The first five items apply to every applicant; the rest are specific to your nationality or visa type.
Passport bio-data page — a clear colour scan or photo showing your photograph, full name, date of birth, passport number and expiry date
Recent passport-style photograph — square format, plain white background, full face visible, no shadows and no headwear other than for religious reasons
A valid credit or debit card to pay the government fee and service charge
Your return or onward ticket details, or at minimum your intended departure date
The address where you will be staying for your first night in India
Simple process
Four steps, entirely online, with our team checking every field before anything reaches the Indian authorities.
Enter your passport details exactly as printed, choose your visa type and duration, and upload your photo and passport data page.
Our team checks your photo dimensions, passport scan clarity, name spelling and date formats before anything is submitted.
Your application goes to the Government of India on your behalf, and we keep you posted at every status change.
Print it or keep it on your phone, and we explain exactly how to present it at your port of entry in India.
Standard processing takes 48 to 72 hours and express handling 24 to 48 hours. Both are business-day estimates, and Indian public holidays — numerous and often state-specific — extend them.
Apply well ahead — at least two weeks, and earlier for medical travel. The Indian visa is rarely the bottleneck on this route; the overland crossing, onward flights and transit permissions take far more arranging. For medical trips, request the hospital letter as soon as treatment is scheduled, because obtaining it usually takes longer than the visa itself.
Separate from your eVisa, every foreign national entering India must complete the digital e-Arrival Card before boarding. It replaces the old paper disembarkation form and is required on every single visit, whatever visa you hold.
Getting there
With Ukrainian airspace closed to civil aviation, every journey begins overland. Most travellers cross into Poland, Moldova, Romania or Hungary and fly onward from there. Your eVisa is checked at your Indian arrival airport and is unaffected by the departure point.
Best time to go
October to March is India's dry season and the most comfortable window for both leisure travel and medical treatment — recovery in 45°C heat is genuinely harder, which is worth weighing if your treatment dates are flexible.
For medical travel the Indian hospital calendar matters more than the weather. Diwali and Holi affect staffing and elective scheduling at many private hospitals, and regional festivals close offices in specific states. Confirm dates directly with the hospital rather than assuming continuous operation.
Avoid the northern plains in May and June, when temperatures exceed 45°C, and expect monsoon rain across most of the country from June to September. India is 2.5 to 3.5 hours ahead of Ukrainian time depending on the season, so jet lag is minimal — the journey length is dominated by the overland leg and connections rather than the time change.
Avoid these
Refusals are rare, and almost always technical rather than substantive. These are the problems that come up most often on applications from Ukraine — we check for every one of them before submitting.
The most important point on this route. Your eVisa authorises entry to India and nothing more. It has no bearing on your right to exit Ukraine, cross into Poland, Moldova, Romania or Hungary, transit a Gulf or European hub, or re-enter wherever you are currently living. Each of those has its own rules, and they are the parts most likely to go wrong. Plan the whole chain, not just the Indian leg.
Ukraine's official transliteration produces forms that differ from older or Russian-derived spellings — Volodymyr rather than Vladimir, Kyiv rather than Kiev, Serhii rather than Sergey, Oleksandr rather than Alexander. Your passport uses one specific official form, and the eVisa must match it exactly, as must your airline ticket. Using a familiar spelling from an older document is the most common cause of mismatch.
Many Ukrainian surnames change with gender — Shevchenko is invariant, but forms like Kovalskyi and Kovalska differ. Use exactly the form printed on your own passport rather than a spouse's or parent's version.
If you are travelling for treatment, the medical eVisa is the correct category. It gives 60 days with triple entry for follow-ups and allows accompanying family to apply as medical attendants — structure a tourist visa does not provide. Indian hospitals increasingly ask which visa you hold.
The government fee is charged in US dollars and needs a card able to process international transactions, which can be a practical obstacle. Note that the payment card does not have to belong to the traveller, so a family member or colleague abroad can complete it. Resolve this before you start rather than mid-application.
Photo rejected on technical grounds
By far the most common cause of delay. The photograph must be square, on a plain white background, with your full face visible and no shadow behind your head. Cropped selfies and phone photos taken against a cream wall are routinely bounced back.
Passport scan unreadable
Glare across the machine-readable zone, a cut-off corner, or a scan where the passport number is blurred will stall the application. Photograph the page flat, in daylight, with no flash.
Applying too close to departure
The eVisa must be granted before you fly, and airlines check it at the gate. Applications submitted the night before a flight leave no room for a document re-upload.
Conditions
These conditions are set by the Government of India and do not vary by nationality. They are worth reading before you book, because two of them — the port-of-entry rule and the restricted-areas rule — catch out a lot of otherwise well-planned trips.
Validity is measured from your date of arrival in India, not from the date you apply. You also need at least two blank pages for immigration stamps.
The India eVisa is accepted at India's designated eVisa airports and authorised seaports. It cannot be used to cross a land border, so overland arrivals from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh or Pakistan need a different visa.
Every person travelling needs their own eVisa and their own passport, including infants and children. Children cannot be added to a parent's application.
An eVisa does not grant access to Protected Areas, Restricted Areas or Cantonment Areas. Parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim, Ladakh, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep require a Protected Area Permit or Restricted Area Permit in addition to your visa.
You cannot extend an eVisa from inside India or convert it into another visa category. If your plans change, you must leave and apply again.
Diplomatic, official and service passports are not eligible for the eVisa route, and neither are international travel documents or refugee travel documents.
Consular services
The embassy in Kyiv is not involved in eVisa applications, which are handled entirely online — a genuine advantage given current conditions. Consular services may be operating on a reduced basis, so if you need something the eVisa cannot cover — employment, journalism, research or long-term student visas, or OCI matters — check current arrangements before relying on them, and allow considerably more time than usual.
FAQs
The questions Ukrainian passport holders ask most often about applying for an Indian eVisa.
Yes. The eVisa process is entirely online and does not depend on Ukrainian airports or consular services being operational. You upload your documents, pay online and receive the approval by email, typically within 24 to 72 hours. What requires more planning is the journey itself, since Ukrainian airspace is closed to civil aviation.
Most travellers cross overland into Poland, Moldova, Romania or Hungary and fly onward from there. Warsaw has nonstop LOT service to Delhi and is the most common choice; Kraków and Rzeszów are closer to the border and connect via Warsaw, Istanbul or the Gulf. Chișinău, Bucharest and Budapest are alternatives. Your eVisa is checked on arrival in India and is unaffected by your departure point.
No. The eVisa authorises entry to India only. Your right to cross into Poland, Moldova, Romania or Hungary, and to transit a Gulf or European hub, is governed entirely separately. If you are living in an EU country under temporary protection, check what your status permits for onward international travel and re-entry before booking anything.
The medical eVisa. It allows 60 days from first entry with triple entry — designed around treatment plus follow-up consultations — and accompanying family members can apply for medical attendant visas linked to your application. You will need a letter from the treating hospital, which must be on India's recognised list. Request that letter as soon as treatment is scheduled, because it usually takes longer to obtain than the visa.
Exactly as it is transliterated on your current passport under Ukraine's official romanisation, character for character. That form often differs from older or Russian-derived spellings — Volodymyr not Vladimir, Serhii not Sergey, Oleksandr not Alexander. Only the passport spelling is correct for the visa, and your airline ticket should match it too.
Fees are set by nationality and duration, so the pricing panel on this page loads live figures for Ukrainian passport holders across all available options. You can compare 30-day, one-year and five-year prices side by side, and the amount shown is the full cost including our service fee.
The government fee is charged in US dollars and needs a card that can process international transactions. The payment card does not have to belong to the traveller — a family member or colleague abroad can complete the payment on your behalf. Sort this out before you begin rather than mid-application.
Up to 90 days per visit on the tourist eVisa. The 30-day version allows 30 days with double entry; the one-year and five-year versions are multiple-entry with a 90-day cap per visit. The business eVisa permits up to 180 days per visit within a one-year window, and the medical eVisa 60 days from first entry with triple entry.
